Now back to SYTYCD Canada judges…

I’m not gonna lie- I think they should HIRE ME as a judge on the show! I have over 25 years experience in many disciplines, and a crazy passion for watching other dancers succeed.

And, I’d keep it positive and fun, but I would critique with honest feedback, encouragement and integrity. It would be frickin’ sweet.

So. Who do YOU recommend as an official So You Think You Can Dance Canada Judge, and more importantly, WHY should they sit in the chair?

Leave your comments below, let’s see who comes up on the list as a judge. We’ll have a chat about choreographers later.

You never know- CTV and the show producers may listen to what you have to say!

CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada Embarks on Five-City Audition Tour This Spring

Canada, do you think you can dance? Prove it! CTV announced today that So You Think You Can Dance Canada, an all-new Canadian version of the hit international series, will embark on a nationwide search for the country’s favourite dancer this Spring. The five-city audition tour will visit Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax – with one additional audition city to be announced. Complete audition information, including dates, locations and eligibility requirements, will be revealed soon.

CTV and production partner Danse TV Productions are currently casting for the host and judging panel for So You Think You Can Dance Canada. The series premieres this fall on CTV.

So You Think You Can Dance Canada is based on the Emmy Award-winning smash hit series created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe that premiered in 2005. Canada joins the United States, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and Israel as markets with an original So You Think You Can Dance production. The original So You Think You Can Dance is a Top 3 summer series in Canada on CTV with an average audience of 1.25 million viewers*.

“Whether they hone their craft at ballet school, in the clubs or on the streets, dancers share the same dream: to express their passion for dance on stage,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “So You Think You Can Dance Canada provides that stage for the broad spectrum of dance talent this country has to offer in a way never seen before.”

So You Think You Can Dance Canada will showcase dancers as they compete to impress an expert panel of judges during a cross-country audition process.

Selected competitors will be invited to call-backs where they will work with some of Canada’s top choreographers. The panel will then choose the Top 20 dancers to move on in the competition. Then, it’s up to Canada to decide who stays and who goes as the public votes for their favourites following weekly performance episodes in which the competitors are assigned different partners and dance styles to perform, from hip-hop, krump and pop-and-lock to salsa, quickstep, ballroom, and jive.

I KNOW Canada has a lot to offer in terms of dance talent. I’ve been teaching dance classes in Toronto and across the country for a while, and have seen the crazy talent out there with my own eyes. I think it’s about time! But I hope it’s produced well.

Let’s start a discussion… what do YOU think? Will we kick @ss? Will the Canadian version suck? Post your thoughts and comments below.

How Does Dance Enhance Your Life?

Jump for joy- it’s time for a contest!

Kids loving dance

So in case you didn’t know, I dance for a living. Not just through classes and workshops, but as a performer, choreographer, company director and show producer.

For me, dance allows me to create something tangible- choreography, movement, stories and pictures- from what was once a thought or idea in my head. That’s pretty freakin’ awesome. It’s also a way to de-stress, exhale, stay grounded and remember that life is truly worth living.

Lastly, I totally love to share my artistic passion with people like you. It brings a smile to my face when I bring a smile to yours. Seeing the joy dance can bring in a person is completely inspiring, and helps connect us all to something bigger.

That’s what I believe. :-)

What do you believe? How does dance enhance YOUR life?

To celebrate dance (and my birthday March 12th hint hint) I’m going to give you the chance to win free dance classes. On Friday March 21, I’ll select three people at random who leave a reply below answering this question:

“How Does Dance Enhance YOUR Life?”
Your answer should be 1-2 paragraphs, no more than 100 words.

What’s the prize? One FREE Adult Drop In Pass, worth $77. Good for four classes anytime. The pass expires June 29.

Leave a reply below with your answer. Tell your friends to answer also, maybe they’ll share the pass with you if they win?

I’ll post the three winners on this blog, Friday March 21st. Make sure you post your answer anytime before then. Good luck!

- SB
